My Faith in G_d is very important, it directs everything I do and makes up an important part of who I am. Your belief system [or lack of it] shapes and moulds your character.
I chose to follow the teachings of Jesus [Y’shua] at the age of 18. I believe G_d had a plan for my future and I could see his fingerprints from looking at my past.
I’ve been blessed in my life and owe a lot to my family, who promoted diversity and individuality. My family background is a mix of German Jews, Irish Catholics, and Protestant Freemasons, all under the influence of the Aussie way of thinking. Growing up in the Western suburbs of Sydney with a cultural melting pot of friends I learnt about places like Cambodia, Lebanon, Vietnam, etc etc. At home words like ‘shenanigans’ and ‘shamozel’ were mixed in everyday conversation linking me with my respective Celtic and Semitic heritages. All these factors contributed to giving me a longing to learn and made me aware of how diverse the World really is.
I’ve endeavored to get an understanding of part of my ancestry by starting to learn Hebrew and Aramaic. Also as my fiancé is from Fiji, I’ve endeavored to get a grasp of the Fijian language, and so far have a basic knowledge. Both of us have dabbled in learning Spanish in an attempt to start from an even playing field. And also to make sure that my rhyming partner Wizdm [who’s Chilean], doesn’t say anything bad about us.
Now I can agree to disagree with people who don’t believe the same as me, and I try to read a lot of diverse books in an attempt to work out why people do what they do. For example you could follow Gandhi’s passive resistance philosophy without converting to Hinduism. Martin Luther King Junior who was a Baptist Minister adopted this theory in a major way to further the American Civil Rights movement.
I hope and pray that I can be a positive influence on this World for the short time I’ll be here. May I not hinder G_d in his desire to shine His light through this flawed life.
